about the event

Team Captains

Captains run the teams. They are responsible for the conduct and performance of their respective teams, and as such, should be chosen carefully.

It is hoped that each paddler raises a minimum of $225.00...don't let your teammates down. Remember, it is all about the cure!

Team envelopes are all numbered and registered and please be sure that they are all returned.

Captains Meetings:

Team Captains or a team representative shall be required to attend all captains' meetings. The final captains' meeting shall be held on the eve or morning of the event. Important festival information shall be provided during the meeting.

Captains Responsibilities:

  • Liasing between International Dragon Boat Festival organizers and their team
  • Coordination collection and payment of monies due to International Dragon Boat Festival
  • Coordination distribution and collection of International Dragon Boat Festival pledge envelopes
  • Ensure pledge envelopes are sealed, team name properly identified on the envelope and fund-raising total is denoted
  • Submitting a printed or typed team roster
  • Submitting Team Waiver Form signed by all participants prior to practice sessions
  • Reading and understanding all the rules
  • Communicating with the Practice Committee to arrange practice times
  • Advising team members of scheduled practices
  • Providing registration materials to his/her team members (programs, waivers, wrist bands, etc)
  • Marshalling the team for competition (delays in team members reporting for competition may result in a forfeit)
  • Arranging for and erecting a tent for the team's protection from sun or rain
  • Coordination of tent décor, Best dressed Contest
  • Responsible for collecting pledge envelopes and funds prior to race day
